Frieda Rapoport Caplan, founder of Frieda’s Specialty Produce, is memorialized in Inc. Magazine’s list of iconic entrepreneurs who died in 2020.

Caplan died in January 2020.

The article champions Caplan for introducing fruit that was strange to consumers at the time, for being an early proponent of hiring women, and for marketing decisions that led to an expansion of stock-keeping units at retailers.

“To lessen the shock of the unfamiliar, Caplan packaged her products with cooking information and recipes," according to the article.

The Inc. Magazine article also profiles Joe Coulombe of Trader Joe’s, Hair Club for Men founder Sy Sperling, and Jamba Juice founder Kirk Perron.
