The 2021 Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention will be online Feb. 8 to 11.

In past years, more than 2,400 fruit and vegetable growers, as well as other industry professionals from throughout the mid-Atlantic region and beyond, gathered at the Hershey Lodge in Pennsylvania, according to a news release.

Educational sessions will focus on tree fruit, vegetable, small fruit and potato production, plus retail and wholesale marketing.

A session will also be presented in Spanish. A detailed schedule is at www.mafvc.org.

Also, registrants can visit virtual trade show booths, enabling them to chat online with exhibitors.

Registration is $40 for the trade show and all educational sessions.

The educational sessions will be recorded so that registrants can listen through March.

Pesticide credits will be available for growers in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey.

The event website will feature a poster competition for graduate students to present results from fruit and vegetable research projects. Another website component will feature award recipients, who are usually presented by the sponsoring organizations at the convention.

All the educational sessions are scheduled during the daytime, but there will be a bring-your-own Ice Cream Social 7 p.m. Feb. 10.

The Mid-Atlantic Convention has been jointly sponsored by the State Horticultural Association of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association, the Maryland State Horticultural Society and the New Jersey State Horticultural Society for the past 43 years.

In 2014, the Virginia State Horticultural Society also began meeting at the convention. Penn State Extension, University of Maryland Extension, Rutgers Cooperative Extension and Virginia Cooperative Extension all assist in organizing the educational sessions.
