Grimmway employees help students at Pack to School
Bakersfield, Calif.-based Grimmway Farms employees volunteered at the Pack to School drive for school children.
Pack to School, led by the Greater Lamont Chamber of Commerce, on July 22 helped 500 local students by handing out backpacks and school supplies at the Lamont Weedpatch Family Resource Center, according to a news release. Local businesses donated hundreds of supplies, including 330 backpacks and 800 carrot snacks from Grimmway.
“When the Greater Lamont Chamber of Commerce asked for our help with its Back to School Supply Drive, we readily agreed to participate knowing this cause would strongly connect with our employees,” Jeff Huckaby, president of Grimmway Farms, said in the release.
Other companies that contributed supplies included Dollar Tree, Recology, Self-Help Federal Credit Union and Fastrip Gas Stations of Lamont, according to the release, which helped kids in the Lamont, Vineland and Kern High School Districts. The Arvin community will receive the leftover supplies and backpacks.
“Once again, our employees demonstrated that, at Grimmway, ‘giving back to the community’ isn’t a slogan, it’s part of our company’s cultural fabric,” Huckaby said in the release.
