Red Sun Farms adds to capacity, introduces new logo
Strong demand for healthy food should send production higher in the years ahead for Red Sun Farms, says Jim DiMenna, president of the Kingsville, Ontario-based marketer.
The company is a vertically integrated greenhouse owner, grower, marketer and distributor, DiMenna said.
Labor availability and plant diseases could slow industry growth, but DiMenna said Red Sun Farms is making big investments to keep up with demand. The company has operations in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
In 2020, Red Sun Farms finished 27 acres of construction on a three-phase project in Kingsville totalling 63.8 acres, according to a news release. A second investment included 18 acres of high-tech greenhouses, expanding Red Sun Farms’ overall portfolio for the location to 42 acres.
Red Sun Farms Mexico successfully completed a 25-acre expansion prior to its winter crop, according to the release.
In 2021, Red Sun Farms Mexico plans to have an additional 35 acres for the 2021 winter season, according to the release.
Also this year, Red Sun Farms plans for significant distribution center growth to support greenhouse developments.
Its Pharr, Texas, distribution center will increase its capacity by 40,000 square feet of cold storage by the 2021 winter season, according to the release, bringing the facility size to 106,000 square feet.
The company’s operations in Kingsville are moving forward with an additional 22,500 square feet of cold storage this year, increasing the total size of the location to 62,500 square feet, according to the release.
In February, Red Sun Farms introduced a new logo that incorporates the iconic butterfly while maintaining bright, bold colors that honor the history of the brand, ensuring continuity and consistency, according to the release.
