Kevin Leap, senior avocado category manager for Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Robinson Fresh, noted the company has a promotion planned called Livin’ La Vida Fresh, with avocados, mangoes and limes.

“That promotion is encouraged to be executed through large and small point-of-sale stanchions, attention-grabbing bins, social media and digital promotions, as well as display contests,” Leap said.

“We are also sharing recipes for consumer favorites like guacamole and salsas and more unique and interesting recipes like mango jam and cilantro lime rice.

“With the Cinco de Mayo classic and more interesting recipes, we encourage retailers to display items that make a great recipe together, like all the items for salsa near corn chips, or create an in-house meal kit with the produce, dairy and other staple items needed for delicious recipes,” Leap said.

“We have also arranged for a display contest between stores of the same brand to encourage creativity and help draw customers in for a unique experience. Lastly, in the era of online shopping, we encourage retailers to not forget about taking their in-store cross-promotions online for a consistent experience.”

George Henderson, marketing manager for Murrieta, Calif.-based West Pak Avocado, said the company offers point-of-sale material for bulk and bagged product, with the latter including recipes on the label.

“With our Avo-Opportunities program, our team is at the ready to create custom packaging, point-of-sale, marketing, sales and educational materials, as needed, all designed to help drive more sales for our retailers,” Henderson said.  He also noted the numerous tie-ins ideal for the holiday.

“For avocados, the go-tos would be tomatoes, limes, onions, cilantro and all of the other possible ingredients for guacamole,” Henderson said. “Then, there are the chips, from tortilla to pita chips, and pre-cut carrots, celery and other healthy dipping items.”
