“Okay, Boomer.” “Millennials ruined brunch!” “Zoomers won’t do anything they can’t put on TikTok.” We’re all familiar with the traditional generational complaints and stereotypes. We’ve also learned the basic breakdown of the era: Boomers; Gen X; Millennials; Gen Z (or Zoomers). So, what the heck is a Zennial? Zennials are the micro-generation born between 1993 and 1998, right smack in the middle of Millennials and Gen Z (hence, “Zennial”). Ranging in age from 22 to 28, this is a pocket population that is often on the cusp of gaining true financial independence and enjoying the freedom to purchase exactly the food they want, when they want it. As marriage and parenthood can be significantly delayed in the post-Millennial generations, Zennials are often in a sweet spot of grocery shopping for only their individual needs and tastes.

Millennials tend to be a health-conscious bunch, and Gen Z prioritizes whole and organic foods with ingredients they recognize. As the generation sandwiched between the two, it stands to reason that Zennials reflect the financial independence of Millennials combined with the prioritization of nutritious, chemical-free foods by Gen Z.

To capture the attention of this notably short-attention-spanned group, share produce beauty shots and nutritious, scrumptious recipes across your social media platforms. In-store displays are great as well, but this is a demographic that will most likely decide what to buy before they show up—and those decisions will be heavily influenced by what has sparked their interest on social media and other online venues. Zennials are the first true digital natives; surfing for recipes is as natural to them as clipping coupons was to their parents.
