California table grape acreage steady

California table grape acreage held steady in 2020 compared with the previous year, according to new statistics from the California Department of Agriculture.

Table grape acreage totaled 130,000 acres with 122,000 bearing and 8,000 non-bearing, according to the report. Total acreage of 130,000 acres is unchanged from 2019; bearing acreage of 122,000 was up 1,000 acres or 0.8% from 2019. Non-bearing acreage, at 8,000 acres in 2020, was off 11% from 9,000 acres reported in 2019.

The report said California’s 2020 grape acreage totaled 895,000 acres. Of that, 844,000 acres were bearing while 51,000 were non-bearing. The wine-type grape acreage is estimated at 620,000 acres. Of the total acres, 580,000 were bearing and 40,000 were non-bearing.

Acreage of raisin-type grapes totaled 145,000 acres, of which 142,000 were bearing and 3,000 were non-bearing.

Flame seedless was the leading table grape variety.

2020 total (bearing and non-bearing combined) acreage of select table grape varieties, compared with 2019:

  • Allison: 2,601 acres, up 46% from 1,786 acres in 2019;
  • Autumn Crisp: 1,716 acres, up eleven-fold from 139 acres in 2019;
  • Autumn King: 6,798 acres, up 8% from 6,275 acres in 2019;
  • Cotton Candy: 865 acres, unchanged from 2019;
  • Crimson seedless: 6,039 acres, down 11% from 6,800 acres in 2019;
  • Flame seedless: 13,150 acres, down 11% from 14,718 acres in 2019;
  • Great Green: 1,098 acres, up 81% from 605 acres in 2019;
  • Ivory: 2,654 acres, up 121% from 1,199 acres in 2019;
  • Krissy: 1,464 acres, up sixteen-fold from 86 acres in 2019; and
  • Sweet Globe: 874 acres, up 113% from 409 acres in 2019.
