Peruvian avocados to be featured at festival
Peruvian avocados will be featured at Embassy of Peru’s National Day Celebration at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C..
The July 27 event is part of Kaypi Perú (This is Peru), a festival featuring Peruvian customs and culture, July 27 through July 30, and the event will feature Peruvian avocados.
The Washington, D.C.-based Peruvian Avocado Commission is a sponsor of the event, and is donating 100,000 ripe avocados that will be used to create dishes, including guacamole, avocado truffles, ribbon avocado summer salad and avocado oatmeal cookies. There will be an avocado gelateria, provided by Firenzes Gelateria and Café of Annapolis, Md., featuring three Peruvian avocado flavors — Pisco Sour Sorbet; Coco Loco; and Mint and Oreo Cookies Gelato — with vegan and organic options.
“We are pleased to offer you a small window into Peruvian culture through Kaypi, a window we invite you to enlarge and turn into a bridge that links cultures and people,” Carlos Pareja, Peru’s ambassador to the U.S., said in a news release.
“We are honored and thrilled to be a part of Kaypi Perú and illustrate to the Washington, D.C., community the intersection of Peruvian avocados and the heritage of Peru,” Xavier Equihua, president and CEO of the Peruvian Avocado Commission, said in the release.
