Grimmway brings Washington baby carrot facility online

Bakersfield, Calif.-based Grimmway Farms has fully activated its baby carrot processing facility in Pasco, Wash., after two seasons of limited production.

The plant gives Grimmway customers freight savings and more shipping options during the July-November harvesting season, said Jeff Huckaby, Grimmway Farms’ president.

“We’re pleased to offer more shipping options to our customers in the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada,” Huckaby said in a news release. “Providing access to our baby carrots through this additional resource allows these customers to better serve their markets.”

Huckaby said the Pasco plant is an option for customers and distribution centers that manage high volumes of both conventional and organic varieties of baby carrots.

Grimmway’s Pasco facility was modeled after another plant in Arvin, Calif.

Following two seasons of small runs, 2017 marks the first time that Grimmway’s Pasco facility is being operated at a higher capacity, according to the company.
