Bay Baby Produce building facility
Bay Baby Produce, which grows pumpkins, long-stem ornamentals and organic winter squash, has broken ground on a 55,000-square foot facility.
The new building represents a 20,000-square foot expansion, with upgrades including additional pumpkin and squash packing area, separate washing and grading area, and shipping and receiving docks, according to the company.
Growth in ornamentals and in organics have driven business to the point where the Burlington, Wash.-based company needed to expand.
“The last couple of years we’ve had to rent additional off-site space for overflow,” said Michele Youngquist, owner of Bay Baby Produce. “Having additional off-site warehouse and packaging locations brings its own set of challenges. It became clear last season we needed a new location. The best option was to build on our current land and own our own facility.”
Bay Baby Produce broke ground in mid-June, and the building is expected to be operational for the 2018 season.
