WinCo Foods promotes Chilean lemons
Boise, Idaho-based WinCo Foods partnered with the Chilean Citrus Committee on a recent promotion with social media and in-store components.
An Instagram contest July 7-11 encouraged consumers to respond to the prompt “When life gives you lemons, make ______!” for a chance to win a prize, according to a news release. WinCo also offered samples of lemon mint-infused water at a California store location.
The retailer promoted a lemon meringue pie recipe video by Fruits From Chile, and another in-store piece of the partnership was the distribution of recipe cards and contest entry forms while Chilean dancers and lemon and orange “mascots” posed for photos and handed out Fruits from Chile activity books for kids.
The citrus season in Chile runs through October, and the country is expected to export about 250,000 pounds of lemons, navels, clementines and mandarins this year.
