California Cantaloupe Board expands social media promotions
The nutrition of the cantaloupe will take on new focus in social media promotion efforts of the California Cantaloupe Board.
This summer the board will continue ongoing efforts to expand its social media audience, engage consumers, share recipes and facts about California cantaloupe.
New for consumers this year is expanded information about cantaloupe nutrition, according to a news release.
The Board partnered with registered dietitian and Produce for Better Health ambassador Neva Cochran to create a new section of its website focusing on the nutritional content and benefits of eating cantaloupe.
For example, cantaloupe is an excellent source of both vitamins A and C, providing 30% of the daily recommended value of vitamin A and 60% of the daily recommended value of vitamin C.
A series of healthy new recipes and usage ideas has also been developed and will be shared with consumers throughout the months of June, July and August, according to the release.
A series of contests and prize giveaways will be conducted to encourage greater engagement among consumers. The first one will launch next week. To expand its reach, the Board will be working with a new influencer this season -- Elizabeth Van Lierde (The College Housewife) -- who will be creating new recipes and how-to videos and sharing them with her sizable online audience.
The board is also holding a special ‘Crazy for Cantaloupe’ Zoom Event for a group of registered dietitians and influencers. The invitation-only session is being hosted by health expert Cindy Kleckner, author of the DASH Diet for Dummies, and will feature recipe demos and contests for participants who will be sharing information and new recipes with their own online audiences.
The board is partnering with the Produce for Better Health Foundation and the California Pear Advisory Board for an online webinar to discuss the topic of Taste versus Waste. As part of this session, to be held June 29th, California cantaloupe shipper Garrett Patricio, Chairman of the California Cantaloupe Advisory Board, and Bayer Crop Science plant breeder Elen Jones Evans will discuss advancements in varietal development to create cantaloupes that have longer shelf life and better flavor. The audience for this webinar includes registered dietitians, influencers and consumer marketing teams for retail and foodservice companies. PBH will be announcing this webinar shortly.
