Packer survey: Foodservice sales heating up?

(File image)

Is the foodservice sector finally getting back on track?

The easing of the COVID-19 pandemic appears to correlate with an increase in foodservice business.

What does it mean for the industry?

The Packer is seeking input from foodservice suppliers and distributors as for its July 5 Foodservice tabloid.

Please fill out this survey by June 10.

Some questions include:

  • On a percentage basis, how much trust do you think consumers currently have in restaurants as a safe place to gather, compared with before the pandemic?
  • In your region, when do you think your foodservice business will reach pre-pandemic levels?
  • Are restaurants having trouble finding labor in your region? Will that increase demand for value-added/cut produce from suppliers? Any other implications?
  • If you are a wholesaler/distributor, did you attempt to penetrate the direct-to-consumer market (either pick up or delivered)? If so, what was that experience like? Are you still pursuing that business?
  • Did you work directly or indirectly with the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box program? Were you pleased with how it operated during the pandemic?
  • Do you look for a full return of school foodservice business this fall?

Thanks for your participation in the survey and our editorial coverage of this important sector. Send questions to news@thepacker.com.
