Michigan produce shipments increase in 2020
Michigan produce shipments increased during the pandemic year of 2020.
2020 fresh produce shipments totaled 2.11 billion pounds in 2020, up from 8% from 1.94 billion pounds in 2019 and up 2% from 2.08 billion pounds.
Fruit and vegetable commodities seeing gains in volume were apples, cabbage, onions, peppers, potatoes, squash , tomatoes and watermelon.
Michigan fresh produce suppliers shipped fruits and vegetables in every month of 2020, with peak volume from August through October. By percentage of annual volume, here is how the months ranked:
January: 7.5%;
February: 8.5%;
March: 8.6%;
April: 6.6%
May: 3.9%;
June: 1.9%;
July: 5%;
August: 13.7%;
September: 13.8%;
October: 13.1%;
November: 9%; and
December: 8.2%.
