Potato stocks up 13% from June 2020
Potato states held 65.3 million cwt. in storage on June 1, up 13% from June 1 a year ago.
Potatoes in storage, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, accounted for 16% of the states’ 2020 production compared with 14% a year earlier.
The indicated potato disappearance, at 349 million cwt, was down 5% from the same period last year. Season-to-date shrink and loss, at 24 million cwt, was 8% higher than the same time last year. Processors in the eight states used 187 million cwt. of potatoes for the season, down slightly from June 2020.
The USDA reported the f.o.b. price of Idaho 60 count cartons were $15-16 per carton on June 21, up from $12-13 per carton.
