Wong Potatoes sees slight acreage decline

(Wong Potatoes)

Klamath Ore.-based Wong Potatoes Inc. will see a slight acreage decline based on water availability concerns, said Ron Settlemire, sales manager.

Acreage may be down about one-sixth, Settlemire said.
Harvest typically starts at Labor Day, but hotter weather this season makes it hard to put a firm estimate on the first shipment date.

The company, which markets to retailers and foodservice distributors, offers about 60% organic and 40% conventional potatoes, he said.

Foodservice demand is rebounding but will take time to fully recover, Settlemire said.
