The Packer will present the 2021 Canadian Produce Person of the Year award on July 21 to Larry McIntosh, long-time president and CEO of Peak of the Market, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

McIntosh, who retired this year, led Peak of the Market for 27 years. He is praised for his enthusiastic and creative marketing of the “Peak of the Market” brand in Manitoba through the years.
His line “Don’t forget to eat your veggies” is synonymous with his name, one supporter said.

McIntosh has served in volunteer roles in many organizations, including the Canadian Food Policy Advisory Council, the Canadian Produce Marketing Association, the Canadian Red Cross, the Produce Marketing Association and others.

The Packer received ten nominations for the award this year and appreciates the thoughtful input from those submitting nominations.

The Packer has been presenting the Canadian Produce Person of the Year award to outstanding members of the industry for 48 years.

Last year, The Packer’s 2020 Canadian Produce Person of the Year award was presented virtually to Oleen Smethurst, assistant vice president and general merchandise manager for Costco Wholesale Canada.

For an invite to the live video presentation of the 2021 award, set for noon Central on July 21, contact Tom Karst, editor of The Packer, at news@thepacker.com.
