Applications open or Caplan Family Business scholarship

The United Fresh Produce Association is accepting applications for the 2017 Frieda Rapoport Caplan Family Business Scholarship.

Deadline is Aug. 11.

Founded in 2001 by sisters Karen Caplan and Jackie Caplan Wiggins, the Frieda Rapoport Caplan Family Business Scholarship Program honors their mother.

The program provides the opportunity for representatives from family-owned businesses to attend the United Fresh Washington Conference, according to a news release. Scholarship recipients will receive complimentary airfare, hotel and registration to participate in the Sept. 18-20 conference.

The scholarship committee evaluates applicants on several criteria, including the candidate’s interest in advocacy work and commitment to the produce industry.

“Thanks to the very generous support and leadership of the Caplan’s, family businesses throughout the industry can benefit from this exceptional leadership opportunity,” Miriam Wolk, United Fresh vice president of member services, said in the release.

For information about the scholarship program, contact Wolk at 202-303-3410.
