Satur Farms, in the North Fork of Long Island, has many sustainability practices established, plus new projects in progress, said Paulette Satur, founder and CEO.

“Right now, we’re working to reduce waste and lower energy costs,” she said.

Satur started a program that returns all scrap greens — including post-production floor sweepings — to farm fields rather than throwing them away.

Staff has also started turning off lights in rooms not being used, including production rooms during lunch hour.

“Over the course of a year, these small measures really add up to savings, both environmentally and economically,” Satur said.
