Connecting consumers to Wisconsin potatoes is an overarching goal for Dana Rady, director of promotion and communication and consumer education for the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association, Antigo.
And the association has found numerous ways to reach that aim, she said.

“We continue to showcase the importance of buying local and supporting local businesses and the local economy as doing so ensures getting a fresher product at a lower carbon footprint,” Rady said.

The group takes the Wisconsin Spudmobile, a mobile education unit, to events while having conversations with visitors about Wisconsin potatoes and potato growers.

Beyond that, she said there are multiple ways the group is spreading the message about the performance power of Wisconsin potatoes:

  • A sponsorship with the grilling duo Mad Dog and Merrill and the Midwest Grill’n TV show;
  • A soon-coming billboard on Highway 39/51;
  • A sponsorship of Gabe Sommers Racing with a “powered by Wisconsin potatoes” logo on his race car;
  • Working with a registered dietician, especially at Spudmobile events;
  • Continuing to expand the group’s Healthy Grown program with a focus on restoring natural ecosystems; and
  • TV advertising, social media posting and promotions.

Rady said the group also is embarking on a partnership with a well-known comedian who is sure to bring further attention and awareness to Wisconsin potatoes.
