Emerson to sponsor Tour de Fresh rider

St. Louis, Mo.-based Emerson is sponsoring a rider for the Tour de Fresh, and providing technology that allows the industry to track the progress of each rider. as well as temperatures in the area that riders are passing through.

Tour de Fresh is a three-day cycling event (July 25-27) with a finish line in Monterey, Calif., that coincides with the Produce Marketing Association’s annual Foodservice Conference. The biking event raises money for the Salad Bars to Schools campaign.

Gerd Uitdewilligen, international sales director for Emerson, is riding in support of Idaho-based Twin Falls School District No. 411.

Emerson ProAct GO Real-Time Trackers will be worn by riders to show their location during the tour, according to a news release. The trackers are used to track perishable food shipments, including fresh produce.

“On the Tour de Fresh website, spectators, friends and cycling enthusiasts can input the serial number of our device to see the position — and temperature — of riders in real-time,” Frank Landwehr, vice president and general manager of Cargo Solutions for Emerson’s Commercial and Residential Solutions platform. “We think this is a great and novel way to provide visibility and further support this event.”
