Sage Fruit Co. adds pear conditioning capacity
Sage Fruit Co. pears are grown and harvested in the Yakima Valley, as well as parts of Oregon, said Chuck Sinks, president of sales and marketing for the Yakima, Wash.-based company.
The company has a packing facility in Yakima, where Sage Fruit has dedicated a packing line specifically for pears.
Sage Fruit expects a sizeable pear crop this year, with production up about 3% across all varieties. Organic pears make up 15% to 18% of the company’s total pear volume, he said.
Since last season, Sage Fruit has installed a pear conditioning room, Sinks said.
“For the 2021-22 pear season, we will be expanding our pre-conditioning pear program to meet the needs of our retail partners.”
