Shuman Farms honors those impacted by breast cancer this October

For the past 13 years, Reidsville, Ga.-based Shuman Farms has distributed special, pink RealSweet® onion bags, display bins, and POS during the month of October to support breast cancer awareness.

Since 2009, the philanthropic-focused organization has donated more than $110,000 to those working to find a cure. This year, Shuman Farms will honor friends and colleagues in the produce industry who have been impacted by breast cancer by making its annual donation in their names.

Shuman Farms has also added new elements to the program, honoring breast cancer survivors and their loved ones.

“Every year when we present our pink ribbon RealSweet bags, we listen to friends and colleagues tell stories of how their lives have been touched by breast cancer,” said John Shuman, President and CEO of Shuman Farms. “This year, we have added meaningful new components to our campaign with them in mind.”
Shuman Farms will be donating comforting blankets to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments. The team will also be participating in the virtual 2021 Komen Lowcountry MORE THAN PINK Walk on October 2.

Continuing the “food is medicine” conversation and touting the health benefits of a nutrient-rich diet, Shuman Farms will also be partnering with nine influencers who have been impacted by breast cancer, allowing them to tell their stories while sharing healthy recipes. Participating influencers, reaching a combined 2.6 million consumers, include: Food Wine Sunshine, The Three Keeper, My Sweet Savings, The Purposeful Nest, The Fun Foodie Mama, Meghan on the Move, The Farm Babe, Run DMT, and Create Kids Club.

“We know that eating a diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, like sweet onions, can have a positive effect on health,” Shuman continued. “We’re excited to work with this group of influencers, hear their stories, and continue to encourage healthy eating.”
Shuman Farms will ship premium RealSweet onions in special pink bags for the entire month of October.
