How did you get your start in the produce industry?
At Vons Grocery Stores in California circa 1988. I started as a courtesy clerk, then was promoted into the produce department about 6 months later after winning our district bagging competition (wrap master).

How would you describe your current role?
I oversee a team of produce buyers for a DC supplying 70 stores, SKU/item selection, negotiate contracts/programs, write weekly produce ads, provide weekly projections and financials for produce department, oversee quality control.
What do you hope to accomplish/contribute through that role?
To exceed all company goals for produce sales and margin, exceed fill rate goals, exceed shrink goals, and provide our customers with the absolute best produce available at the best cost.
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
Being one of the original members involved in creating Fresh Thyme and opening 70+ stores in five years.
What does leadership mean to you?
Helping everyone exceed even their own expectations and performing at the absolute highest level.
Who are some of your industry mentors?
Jason Dugan: He was the master of merchandising and showed me the ropes in the farmers market format when I entered that sector of our business with Boney’s in 1994.
Dave Wiles: He brought me into the produce procurement world and was a great mentor in all aspects of produce buying.
What's a little-known fact about you?
I love ’80s music! I always have it playing in the background at work or anytime I am at home.
What's your favorite efficiency hack?
Preparation and focus.
If you had to pick one fruit or vegetable to eat every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Watermelon.
