Phillip Grant joined Hunts Point Produce Market in the Bronx, N.Y., in 2019 as general manager, and became CEO earlier this year.

What industry groups are you involved with?

In order to keep up to date with the produce industry and the broader world of development, I maintain active membership in the National Association of Produce Market Managers (NAPMM), World Union of Wholesale Markets, the Construction Management Association of America and the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE). These are great organizations that assist in connecting me with industry colleagues to share ideas on best practices.

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?

Coming from the NYC Economic Development Corp., where my projects were related to improving the life of everyday New Yorkers, I am proud to still be working in a place like the Hunts Point Produce Market, where everything that we do is essential to New York City’s food infrastructure.

What does leadership mean to you?

Trusting and inspiring your team to perform at their very best and making the tough decisions when it counts.

What's a little-known or fun fact about you?

I love to fly and hope to one day complete the requirements for my pilot’s license.

What's your favorite efficiency hack?

I am normally an early riser and work on tackling priorities – before the sun comes up.
