USDA wants to buy 650,000 cartons of oranges, grapefruit

The USDA is looking for suppliers offering to sell big volumes of fresh oranges and grapefruit for use in school lunches and other nutrition programs.

Offers are due by Jan. 4, and acceptances will be announced by midnight Jan. 14, according to the USDA.

Deliveries of the citruses are to be made between Feb. 7 and Sept. 28, the agency said.

In total, the USDA said it is seeking offers for 346,860 cartons of grapefruit and 302,670 cartons of oranges.
