Fresh apple holdings down 2.9% compared with a year ago
U.S. fresh apple holdings on Jan. 1 totaled 87.7 million bushels, 2.9% less than the inventories reported a year ago, according to a new report from the Falls Church, Va.-based U.S. Apple Association.
Fresh apple holdings on Jan. 1 were about 12% lower than the January 5-year average, according to the survey.
The survey indicated the total volume of apples in storage on Jan. 1 was 122.6 million 42-pound cartons, 7% less than last January’s total of 131.9 million cartons and 11.5% below the 5-year average for that date, according to the report. Processing holdings totaled 34.9 million cartons, 16.1% less than a year ago.
