New Limeco growing business by adding volume, new items

Princeton, Fla.-based New Limeco LLC is a grower, packer and shipper of Florida tropical avocados, guavas and other tropical fruits.

The company is extending its season beyond its usual mid-May to March time frame, and adding more imported items, too.

“We are planting and growing later varieties of avocados to extend the season,” said Eddie Caram, general manager at New Limeco. “We hope to increase our volume every season. We are also going to start importing some organic limes.”

With the added volume of fruit, the company will be busy with retailers and promoting itself online to create brand recognition, according to Caram. Additionally, New Limeco will be growing its ability to deliver bagged limes this year.

“We have designated a cooler at our plant to bag limes. We’re also looking to expand that capacity with a new bagging machine in late 2022,” Caram said.

Several key items have propelled New Limeco over the years, and the company plans to add other items to continue its growth.

“Florida avocados, red guava and Boniato [Cuban sweet potatoes] have done really well for us,” Caram said. “We plan to import more papayas, limes and tropical avocados to keep growing our business."

New Limeco is planning for even more change over the next five years.

“We want to become one of the largest lime importers in South Florida. Regarding our avocado crops, we plan to increase our production in the next five years,” Caram said. “We have the team here to grow and supply our customers’ needs weekly and into the future.”
