Earthblend building its business
EarthBlend LLC will be expanding on several fronts over the next few months. As a 4-year-old company, it has diversified with its sister companies to handle fresh produce from seed to shipping.
For Nogales, Ariz.-based EarthBlend LLC, Spring marks a geographic transition and the beginning of its broad variety of vegetables and fruits out of Mexico. The company also has a second distribution center in Pharr, Texas.
“Our spring crop is just getting started. We are transitioning from Sinaloa [Mexico] to Sonora [Mexico], with consistent supplies on squash, cucumbers and bell peppers,” said Steve Spence, sales manager at EarthBlend. “Mid-April, we will begin to harvest roma tomato, watermelons, mini watermelons and honeydews.”
The company is beginning to offer some organic commodities, too. This spring, EarthBlend will have organic zucchini, yellow squash and mini watermelons.
“We can pack organic or conventional 3.5-pound, bagged squash and 1.25-pound, tray-pack squash. We are always looking for value-added programs,” Spence said. “Please let us know what pack style you need. We just completed a frozen processing facility for squash, hard shell, hot peppers and bell peppers.”
Over the next five years, EarthBlend expects to grow its value-added programs, add more fresh fruits and vegetables for processing, and build a new 100,000-square-foot facility in Nogales.
“We are excited for our future. This is our fourth season and it’s been a fun ride,” Spence said. “Between our sister companies and EarthBlend, we are involved with all aspects of production. We distribute and market the seed, we grow and graft seedlings, we grow fresh produce, and we process and distribute fresh produce.”
