New Limeco LLC expects better crop of Florida avocados
New Limeco LLC expects to have a better Florida avocado crop in 2022-2023, said Eddie Caram, general manager of the Princeton, Fla.-based marketer.
“The season seems like a fairly better crop than last year season,” Caram said.
Since being purchased in 2001 by Alcides Acosta, New Limeco LLC has been steadily growing into the largest, full-line tropical fruit and vegetable growers and shippers in Florida, according to the company’s website.
Acosta is the owner of New Limeco LLC sister company Acosta Farms, which grows and manages approximately 800 acres of greenskin Florida avocados, starfruit and mamey, marketed by New Limeco, LLC.
Weather conditions up until mid-May were very favorable for the crop, he said.
With inflation in the news nationwide, cost increases have been a reality for south Florida avocado growers, he said.
“This has not been easy having to keep up with almost daily increases in (costs),” he said.
Caram said New Limeco LLC uses weekly emails, phone calls and advertising to communicate with its customers.
Retailers can help maximize Florida avocado sales by using Advertise Fresh from Florida signage and merchandising tools, he said.
