CPS requests food safety research proposals

The Center for Produce Safety has announced its invitation for research proposals for 2018.

CPS and its research partners will fund approved research projects on food safety in the produce industry, with $3 million available, according to a news release.

“The mission of the Center for Produce Safety is to provide and share ready-to-use, science-based solutions to prevent or minimize produce safety vulnerabilities. In an effort to address current food safety challenges the Center for Produce Safety endeavors to identify high-priority research needs,” Drew McDonald, vice president of quality and food safety for Taylor Fresh Farms and chair of the CPS Technical Committee, said in the release.

The 2018 research objectives were gathered from produce industry members, government and academic stakeholders and CPS symposium attendees, and can be found online at www.centerforproducesafety.org.

“We encourage scientists who have an interest in partnering with CPS to contact us (and) ask questions about the proposal process, research priorities and CPS expectations of funded scientists,” Bonnie Fernandez-Fenaroli, CPS executive director, said in the release.
