Symms Fruit Ranch looks for stable onion acreage
Onion acreage is stable for Caldwell, Idaho-based Symms Fruit Ranch Inc., company officials report.
Eva Symms, sales representative, said the company has a little more than 100 acres of red and yellow onions planted in Idaho this year.
Acreage is very comparable to last year, Symms said.
“Our onion crop looks good this year,” she said. “The onions continue to grow well, so we are optimistic about the upcoming season.”
Weather has been generally favorable this year, she said. “I think we will start packing onions around the beginning of October.”
The company put in a new onion sorting line this year that will improve the efficiency of onion packing, Symms said.
