GPOD completes big packinghouse renovation

(GPOD)

Shelley, Idaho-based GPOD of Idaho has just completed the largest renovation in its history relative to its grading, sorting and sizing capabilities, said Kevin Searle, general manager.

“This will enhance the ability of our operation to pack additional product at a higher level of quality,” he said.

GPOD of Idaho has been in the fresh pack business since 1968, Searle said.  The company operates its business on the russet burbank, the potato variety that made Idaho famous, Searle said. “We currently are the last standing operation packing this variety exclusively for our customers.”

In general, he noted the harvested potato acreage for Idaho is down substantially from a year ago, with yield reductions and size profile concerns, he said, noting that a shorter supply of potatoes will take a concentrated effort to ensure the best possible outcome for all involved.

“The 2022/23 marketing season may see sustained marketing conditions unlike any other previous time in history,” he said. “We will be working closely with our customer base in bringing them the highest quality potato pack during the upcoming season.”
