Potandon extends its value-added microwaveable line
An extension of Potandon’s value-added microwavable line has arrived with the product name Minute Mashers with Gravy, says Dick Thomas, senior vice president of sales for Potandon Produce LLC, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
The product features two flavors — brown and chicken.
Everything a consumer needs to make fresh mashed potatoes and gravy is in one two-chamber bag Thomas said, with gravy in the top chamber and potatoes in the bottom chamber.
Consumers simply microwave the product for 7 minutes, smash the potatoes in the bag and pour the gravy over the potatoes, Thomas said. Potandon will showcase the new item at the International Fresh Produce Association Global Produce and Floral Show in October, he said.
Supply outlook
Potandon’s Idaho acreage is relatively flat from a year ago, Thomas said.
“Yields are about on par with last year with early indications of smaller size in the crop,” he said.
Given supply and demand conditions, Thomas said the firm expects a steady and strong market for this season. The firm offers both conventional and organic potatoes.
“We have seen steady growth in the (organic potato) category,” he said.
