The 2022 Packer 25 is our annual tribute to 25 leaders, innovators and agents of change across the fresh produce supply chain. Each year, The Packer invites the produce industry to nominate distinguished veterans, leaders and rising stars of the fresh produce industry. As always, our editorial team was energized and awed by the talented pool of nominees this year. Now in its 18th year, The Packer is once again spotlighting 25 dynamic and inspiring people who are moving the produce industry forward.

The following has been edited for length and clarity.

Kenny Lund, executive vice president, Allen Lund Company logistics division, La Cañada, Calif.

What do you do in your current role?

Lund: I’m executive vice president and oversee our Allen Lund Company logistics division. This division has less-than-truckload and full-truckload transportation management system products for shippers to track and efficiently move all of their loads. I wear many hats that include representing the company in trade associations and media. I am also a member of the executive committee.

How did you get your start in the produce industry?  Did you envision landing where you did?

I started with the company after three years of coaching and teaching. A family connection got me started. I envisioned a career with Allen Lund Company, but I never expected the products we have now, the size of the company and the fantastic team we have here. It is a joy every day to be a part of Allen Lund Company.

What’s something that surprised you about the produce industry?

The great people in the industry always surprise me with their love of what they do and how resilient they are in a tremendously challenging industry.

What are you most passionate about right now in your role or the industry?

Live tracking of location and temperature of every produce load on the road. It is achievable, and we are building the systems to make it happen.

What is the craziest fruit or vegetable you have ever encountered?  What made it so unusual?

A citrus called ‘Hand of Buddha’ It looks bonkers and has no pulp.  Still, cooks have found a way to use it in recipes.
