Pear Bureau Northwest to focus on global recipes and events for worldwide pear celebration
The Milwaukie, Ore.-based Pear Bureau Northwest has announced its 2022 celebration of its annual World Pear Day on Dec. 3.
Kicking off the 18th annual Celebrate Pears Month, this year’s World Pear Day offers consumers around the world the opportunity to celebrate with pears through a variety of new fun and exciting activities, according to a news release.
“For the seventh annual World Pear Day celebration, USA Pears will be showcasing the healthy versatility of pears in a series of large-scale events,” Jeff Correa, international marketing director for the Pear Bureau Northwest, said in the release. “We’ll be hosting in-person events in Mexico and Canada and a 12-hour Chef Live Stream on Kittch.com where consumers can sample USA Pear varieties, try them in some different recipes, and learn more on how to cook with pears.”
Leading the digital experience, the culinary live-streaming platform Kittch will broadcast 12 hours of interactive demonstrations featuring chefs from around the world including Taiwan, India, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Brazil and the U.S. Live activities will begin at 5 a.m. PST, according to the release.
Pear lovers in Canada and Mexico will also be able to attend special, in-person events. In Toronto, the St. Lawrence Market will be the venue for a pear sampling, including samples of pear mini doughnuts. In Mexico City, consumers will enjoy pear pizzas and all the varieties of USA Pears in Parque Hundido from 9-6 p.m. Both events will include an Instagram contest, where followers will be encouraged to post their most creative photos, the release said.
Followers anywhere, however, can celebrate by posting their own love of pears using #WorldPearDay and #CelebratePearsMonth, the release said.
Leading up to the celebration, USA Pears also will be sharing video recipes collected from around the world. These will be posted to @USAPears on Facebook and Instagram, according to the release.
“Our vision for World Pear Day since its inception has been to get people thinking about and eating tasty pears all around the world,” Kevin Moffitt, president and CEO of Pear Bureau Northwest, said in the release. “It is very gratifying to see how the interactions have grown with many organizations worldwide, enhancing pear’s image as the affable and approachable celebrities of the fruit world that they are.”
December is an optimal time to celebrate World Pear Day due to the abundance and variety of USA Pears, which are at their peak and available worldwide. The 10 varieties of pears grown in Washington and Oregon include: green anjou, red anjou, bartlett, starkrimson, bosc, comice, concorde, forelle, seckel and red bartlett.
