Fresh apple holdings down 4% from year-ago levels
Fresh apple holdings on Jan. 1 totaled 84.2 million bushels, 4.1% less than the inventories reported last January, according to statistics from the U.S. Apple Association.
According to the survey, the total number of apples in storage on Jan. 1, 2023, was 120.8 million bushels, 4.5% less than last January’s total of 126.5 million bushels and 10.8% less the five-year average for that date.
U.S. Apple said processing holdings totaled 36.5 million bushels, 5.5% less than last year on Jan. 1.
By selected variety, fresh holdings in 42-pound cartons on Jan. 1, with the percentage change from year-ago levels:
