Organic Trade Association taps Peter Mihalick as senior director of government affairs

Experienced policy and regulatory leader Peter Mihalick is joining the Organic Trade Association to spearhead organic agriculture advocacy on the 2023 farm bill and other policy initiatives on Capitol Hill.

Peter Mihalick is joining the Washington, D.C.-based Organic Trade Association as its senior director of government affairs.

Mihalick will spearhead the association's advocacy efforts in achieving organic priorities for the 2023 farm bill and will work with lawmakers and policy makers to advance and grow organic agriculture, according to a news release.

“Peter’s experience in advocacy and in shaping policy, and his ability to work across the public and private sectors will serve us well,” Tom Chapman, CEO of the Organic Trade Association, said in the release. “This is a critical time for organic, and the addition of Peter to our staff will strengthen our efforts to make the voices and perspectives of organic heard and respected.”  

Mihalick has extensive experience shaping policy on Capitol Hill and in the private sector. He most recently served as associate director of policy and regulatory affairs at the National Community Pharmacists Association and as vice president for the American Medical Informatics Association, according to the release.

Mihalick has spent close to a decade working in agriculture policy through staff positions in Congress. During his tenure on the Hill, he worked for several former and current members in the House of Representatives, serving as an agriculture, tax and trade adviser. Mihalick is a licensed attorney in both New York and Maryland and a graduate of Syracuse University and the Hofstra University School of Law.  

"I am excited to return to my roots working on agriculture policy,” Mihalick said in the release. “I'm eager to work with my colleagues and other stakeholders to continue the growth of organic agriculture and to build on the gains that organic achieved in the last farm bill.”
