CEA expert Phil Johnson joins Mucci Farms executive team

Ontario-based fruit and vegetable grower Mucci Farms has added Phil Johnson to its executive team as technical director of growing operations. With a career that spans over two decades on three continents, he brings a wealth of knowledge about greenhouse growing, according to a news release. 

“Phil’s experience around the world and proven track record of achieving world class results will help us remain at the forefront of controlled environment agriculture growing for years to come,” Bert Mucci, CEO of Mucci Farms, said in the release. “We are very excited and fortunate to have him join team Mucci.”

Hailing from the U.K., Johnson began his agriculture career as a teenager working in greenhouses on the weekends. He chose to follow his passion at Grodan, where he gained 20-year experience growing in the U.K., New Zealand, Australia and Canada. 

“Ironically, when I first relocated to Canada in 2008, the very first greenhouse I walked through was a Mucci farm, and ever since, I’ve enjoyed offering technical support to their talented growers,” Johnson said in the release. 

Among a variety of roles, he is known for managing a team of experts that supported greenhouse growers on effective irrigation strategies and growing methods, according to the release. A fixture in the CEA industry, Johnson was hired to assist Mucci Farms develop efficiencies, promote production quality and support sustainability efforts, the company said.

“My philosophy is not just to focus on using less but also on getting the most out of what you use,” Johnson said in the release. “The team here is very talented and I’m looking forward to augmenting and refining strategies to ensure the best combination of yield, quality and flavor.”
