L.G. Herndon Jr. Farms will feature special packaging this Vidalia onion season that will benefit the Gary Sinise Foundation, which offers programs to support the nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders and others.

The second-year partnership between the foundation and the Lyons, Ga.-based company will have two cycles during the season when onions will be shipped with co-branded packaging that highlights the foundation’s work, as well as Memorial Day and Fourth of July promotions, according to a news release. Herndon Farms said it will offer a high-graphic display bin in which retailers can showcase the partnership within produce departments.

Each consumer bag also will feature a QR code that will direct shoppers to a dedicated website, in partnership with the foundation, to learn more about the programs offered, according to the release. Consumers can make a donation to the foundation through the website.

Herndon Farms said it will donate 5% of the gross sales — up to $25,000 during the campaign — to the Gary Sinise Foundation for the benefit of the foundation's area of greatest need.

“We had a great [first] year of working with the Gary Sinise Foundation, and we’re looking forward to continuing to highlight the amazing work the GSF does across our country in year two,” John Williams, director of sales at Herndon Farms, said in the release.

The Gary Sinise Foundation’s mission is to serve the U.S. by honoring its defenders, veterans and first responders, as well as their families and those in need. It was established under the philanthropic direction of actor Gary Sinise, who has been an advocate of the nation’s defenders for nearly 40 years.

The foundation’s programs — designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen and build communities — serve America’s heroes and their loved ones every day. Learn more at garysinisefoundation.org.
