When a fresh produce item beats center-store, shelf-stable treats — even plant-based snacks and dried produce — in an overall snack contest, that’s something to talk about. It’s the dream: for produce to be as crave-able and convenient as the Nestles and Nabiscos of those center aisles.

Good Housekeeping named both Pom Wonderful 100% pomegranate juice and Pom pomegranate fresh arils winners in the Good Housekeeping 2023 Best Snack Awards for their unique flavor and antioxidant goodness.

The juice was selected as a winner in the Brilliant Beverages category, while the arils were chosen as a winner in the Powerhouse Produce category.

“Testers loved how refreshing and vibrant the arils were, with one describing them as, ‘juicy and bursting, with a satisfying crunch.’ Our nutrition pros point out that the arils are packed with nutrients and fiber too,” the article said.

For the Best Snack Awards, Good Housekeeping’s in-house registered dietitian and team of food and nutrition experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Nutrition Lab analyzed ingredient lists, nutrition fact labels, packaging claims and flavor profiles of thousands of snacks to find the best.

Also, consumer testers weighed in on taste and provided real-life analysis. The choices focus on innovative snacks in the food space that meet Good Housekeeping's nutritional criteria, including caps on per-serving calories, sugar and sodium.

Other fresh produce winners included:

  • USA Pears royal verano pears.
  • Cosmic Crisp apples.
  • Sumo citrus.
  • Northwest Cherry Growers sweet cherries.
  • Zespri SunGold kiwifruit.
