Onion industry leaders, researchers to host National Onion Association Convention

For the first time in 14 years, the National Onion Association will convene in Texas for its 2023 annual convention from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2. For this year's conference, the NOA has partnered with the National Allium Research Conference to host a joint meeting.

This means attendees will have access to leaders in onion research from throughout the country, in addition to NOA industry advocates, according to a news release.

Convention attendees can expect educational sessions from top onion disease and pest management researchers, political discussions and boots-on-the-ground onion exploration of the Texas A&M Research Station and Cargil Farms Produce onion fields in Uvalde, Texas, the release said.

The 2023 convention will be held at the San Antonio Marriot Riverwalk, the first NOA convention held in Texas since 2009. Winter weather in Texas is temperate, so attendees can expect pleasant winter temperatures in the 50s.

Founded in 1913, the NOA represents growers, shippers, brokers and commercial representatives of the U.S. onion industry. NOA is composed of nearly 500 members from the U.S. and abroad. While the NOA advocates for the industry, it also works on promotional campaigns to help increase the consumption of onions.

The National Allium Research Conference has served as a focal point for biennial conferences devoted to the allium plant species and its improvement, management and consumption in the U.S. and globally since 1985. 

Researchers seeking to present or submit papers to the conference will find a draft agenda and abstract submission guidelines on onions-usa.org. Submissions will be accepted until Aug. 31, 2023, according to the release.
