It’s time to break out the grill and cornhole boards! It’s a summer block party in Tops produce departments across the chain’s 149 grocery stores in New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont.

This year departments are going head-to-head in a four-week block party-themed competition, according to a news release.

“As we embrace all that summer has to offer, it’s a great opportunity to encourage a little healthy competition among our store teams in the spirit of summer,” Jeff Cady, vice president for produce and floral at Tops said in the release. “During the summer months especially, we know that consumers are naturally thinking about fruits and vegetables.  This challenge encourages our associates to remind the community of the importance of getting their five recommended daily servings in a fun and engaging way and maybe even try something new.”

Over the course of the Tops block party, store teams are competing in merchandising categories such as “Berry Bash,” “Poolside with Cherries,” “Watermelon Limbo” and “Cornhole with Seedless Grapes,” according to the release.

Employee teams will be able to earn points for creativity for their produce displays as well as their ability to increase consumer awareness about the importance of eating more fruits and vegetables. Walking away with the win is the goal, and prizes will be awarded for districts and regions as well, according to the release.
