CHICAGO — Following an afternoon of data-rich programming filled with actionable insights, the first day of USApple’s Outlook 2023 conference, Aug. 17, concluded with The Packer presenting Mike Preacher the Apple Person of the Year award.

Preacher, a former chair of the U.S. Apple Association and current vice president of marketing for Domex Superfresh Growers — a Washington state-based grower, packer and shipper of apples, pears, cherries and blueberries — was honored as an “ardent cheerleader” for the apple industry and a passionate advocate for the grower.

“Mike has a passion for understanding the global perspective and educating the Superfresh team and the industry on the sales and marketing effects to the apple market,” Cat Gipe-Stewart, director of marketing for Domex Superfresh Growers, told The Packer prior to the presentation of the award. “He is always focused on grower returns and how every activity we do benefits the grower.”

Preacher has worked in the produce industry for 17 years.

“Mike’s biggest gift is that most people around him would trust him with their life,” Robert Kershaw, CEO of Domex Superfresh Growers, told The Packer. “He has such strong standards of right and wrong. He is the ultimate boy scout. I always have 100% confidence that he represents the Superfresh brand with integrity.”

“I’ve stood on the shoulders of a lot of smart and talented people,” Preacher said. “This award means more than I can say. Thank you all.”
