Kansas City, Mo.-based Empower Fresh Co. has appointed Robert Austin as its vice president of sales.

Founded by Anthony Totta, software solution provider Empower Fresh works with independent grocers’ produce departments across North America, according to a news release.

Empower Fresh launched its software platform launched in June, the release said. The platform provides efficiency and modernization of data handling for independent grocers, according to the release.

The addition of Austin to the Empower Fresh team further solidifies the company's vision of empowering these grocers to flourish in a competitive market, the release said.

Austin's roots in the Kansas City-area's retail produce sector run deep, mirroring the legacy of Totta's own family, the release said.

Austin said the Empower Fresh platform will give retailers more control and focus in their operations.

Through the implementation of Empower Fresh's sophisticated management tool, retailers can significantly curtail produce waste, thereby equipping themselves to rival larger grocery chains armed with business intelligence and artificial intelligence-driven produce management practices, Austin said in the release.

“Our tool empowers us to track the same data like big box stores are doing,” he said. “Each member on our team has been directly connected to independent retailer at one point or another and all of us would like to see the family-owned independent thrive.”
