In one year, Winnipeg, Manitoba-based Peak of the Market Ltd. donated more than 2.7 million pounds of produce to community groups.

From May 1, 2022, to April 30, 2023, the company supported food security and reduced food waste by donating 2,710,737 pounds of produce to various community organizations throughout Winnipeg and across Canada — a 13% increase from the year prior, according to a news release.

"At Peak of the Market Ltd., we believe that success is measured not just in profits, but in the positive impact we make on the lives of others,” CEO Pamela Kolochuk said in the release. “We’re proud to provide Canadians with safe, high-quality produce, no matter their circumstance.”

Donated product consists of off-grade produce that does not meet retail standards but is still healthy and nutritious, the release said. Partner organizations range from larger-scale operations, such as Harvest Manitoba and Second Harvest, to local soup kitchens and food banks.

“Our food donation initiative helps divert millions of pounds of food from the landfill and is an important aspect of our overall commitment to sustainability which is all about having a positive impact on people, the environment and our community,” Kolochuk said.
