In a move it says advances maritime sustainability, Chiquita recently added two new ships to its fleet. The vessels are the biggest ships the brand owns to date, according to a news release.

The two new vessels — The Explorer and The Voyager — highlight Chiquita’s dedication to eco-conscious practices and will operate in alignment with the company’s broader sustainability efforts that include a commitment to reducing waste and resource consumption within the maritime industry, the release said.

To celebrate, Chiquita hosted an inaugural event at Delaware’s Port of Wilmington, where retailers and customers had an opportunity to tour The Explorer and learn more about the company’s sustainable operations.

“Chiquita is proud to be a leader in maritime sustainability, and we were honored to celebrate and welcome the ships to our fleet with our esteemed retailer partners and valued customers by our side,” Carlos Lopez Flores, president of Chiquita Brands, said in the release. “Our commitment to renewable resources extends to our entire fleet, with these ships setting a precedent for eco-friendly maritime practices.”

As the largest ships in Chiquita’s fleet, The Explorer and The Voyager will significantly enhance the company’s shipping capabilities, allowing it to deliver high-quality produce to even more consumers worldwide, the release said.
