Vidalia Onion Committee looking for new executive director

Executive director Susan Waters retired from the Vidalia Onion Committee.

Waters started with the committee seven years ago as an assistant, and moved into the executive director position in 2013 when Wendy Brannen vacated the position.

Bob Stafford, director of the Vidalia Onion Business Council will serve as interim executive director until Waters’ successor is found. She left May 26.

“We know we’re going to fill the position, but we haven’t started any formal process yet,” Stafford said, “We don’t know when it will be filled.”

The executive director position is a full-time employee position that works within the U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines for marketing and promotions.

“We are very grateful and appreciative for Susan’s leadership over the past four years,” Vidalia Onion Committee chairman Troy Bland said in a news release. “We are fortunate that Bob Stafford will be able to step in while we look for a new leader to handle the day-to-day operations of the committee.”

The organization focuses on promotions, marketing and research for the Georgia sweet onion.
