California growers give scholarships
Fresno, Calif.-based California Table Grape Commission has awarded scholarships to nine students.
Six of the nine received fieldworker scholarships, created for children of employees who work for the companies that are part of the commission, according to a news release. All nine students will be attending schools in California.
Jose Aldaco, Vivianna Aguilar and Juan Frausto received two-year, $3,500 fieldworker scholarships to community colleges. Aldaco plans to pursue a career as a certified welder, Aguilar will work toward becoming a nurse, and Frausto plans to explore fruit sales or farm/ranch management.
Daniel Flores, Guadalupe Sandoval and Rosa Linda Lopez received four-year, $20,000 fieldworker scholarships. Flores plans to major in microbiology and become an oncologist, Sandoval plans to study biology and become a pediatric surgeon, and Lopez aims to major in math and become a financial analyst.
Omar Deion Perkins, Sandra Gaylord and Jewlia Winter received four-year, $20,000 agricultural scholarships. Perkins plans to study political science and communications and later work in food safety and marketing, Gaylord will major in plant science and botany and aims to be a pest control advisor and certified crop advisor, and Winter plans to major in agriculture education and become an agriculture teacher.
