BC Tree Fruits to expand packinghouse
British Columbia-based BC Tree Fruits Cooperative plans to expand its Winfield packinghouse and install a new line in time for the apple crop this fall.
The new apple bagging line is expected to increase packing capacity by 30%, according to a news release.
“We are excited to begin the work on this expansion,” BC Tree Fruit CEO Stan Swales said in the release. “This facility handles the majority of our grower member’s apples grown in the Kelowna and Vernon area, so this expansion is imperative to ensure the quality and packing capacity of locally grown apples.”
The expansion needs to be approved by the District of Lake Country, said marketing manager Chris Pollock.
